6 Good But Not Nice Video Game Heroes
Not all heroes are friendly, and these video game characters prove that you don’t have to be nice to be good.
When most people think of what a hero in a video game should be like, they usually think of someone who is brave, kind, and doesn’t care about themselves. But in the end, some nice figures turn out to be bad, while some people wouldn’t think were nice turn out to be good.
There are several video game characters who show that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Most of the time, these people are called “anti-heroes” because they do what’s right even though they don’t have the qualities that most heroes have. These people aren’t here to make friends or have calm talks.
Chris Redfield – Resident Evil Series
Chris Redfield is one of the most famous and well-liked characters in the Resident Evil series. He was in the very first Resident Evil game and has been in most of the games in the series for over 20 years. Most people would call him a hero, but not many would say he was nice. Chris was in the US Air Force before he joined S.T.A.R.S., but he was kicked out for disobedience because he didn’t agree with his bosses.
Before Resident Evil 5 started, Chris was said to have lost Jill. He became cold and distant, and he didn’t care much about his new partner Sheva other than finishing his task. Even though he is still stubborn and sometimes dangerous, he becomes cold and serious in Resident Evil: Village. Even with all of this, Chris has saved the world many times over the years from Umbrella and Bio Organic Weapons. He has made it his life’s work to find them and stop them.
Dani Rojas (Far Cry 6)
Far Cry 6 is about a man named Dani Rojas. Whether players choose to make Dani a man or a woman has no effect on how Dani acts. After Dani punched their drill instructor, they were forced to leave the service. At the start of the game, Dani is very cynical and doesn’t care about the Revolution in Yara. She and her family are trying to get to the US. They joined the guerrilla group Libertad more because they wanted to find a way out of Yara than because they really wanted to join the fight.
But as Dani gets more involved with Libertad and sees the horrible things Anton and his government do, he becomes more caring and ready to fight. Dani is an angry person who sometimes seems to enjoy the damage they cause. However, they show that they have a good heart by not wanting to kill Casillo’s son Diego because they care about him.
Bayonetta (Bayonetta)
Bayonetta is the hero of the Bayonetta game series, but she isn’t the nicest main character in games. She can be snarky and cruel, but most of the time she acts like nothing is wrong.
Part of her power as an Umbra Witch is to make a deal with certain demons from Inferno so she can call them to do her wishes and use them to kill angels and other demons. Despite all of this, Bayonetta has been one of the few people who have kept all kinds of alien dangers from destroying humanity.
Ragna The Bloodedge (BlazBlue)
Depending on which game a player starts with, the BlazBlue games can be a little hard to understand. Six heroes saved the world from a thing called the “Black Beast” that was about to destroy it. They also helped people make the Ars Magus, which is a mix of magic and science, to fight the “Black Beast.”
The main hero of the BlazBlue C-Series is Ragna the Bloodedge. The group that makes and controls the Ars Magus, the Novus Orbis Librarium, or the Library for short, sees Ragna as its number one enemy. Ragna wants to destroy the Library. He is known as the Grim Reaper. Ragna is one of the few people who fights against the Library’s power, even though she is rough, rude, and not very friendly.
Doom Slayer/ Doom Guy (DOOM)
The main character and hero of the Doom games is Doom Slayer, also known as Doom Guy. The series is rated M because of how violently and cruelly he fights demons. Even though he is very violent, he is still a big force for good because he is killing demons to stop Hell’s armies from destroying humanity.
Only demons are the only things he wants to kill. Even people who get in his way or help the demons, he won’t kill, but he has no problem being rough with them if they have something he needs. In Flappy Bird, he also had a pet rabbit named Daisy, who he cared about a lot.
Zero – (Drakengard 3)
As the main character and hero of Drakengard 3, which is sort of a prequel to the first Drakengard game, Zero is shown to be anything but a hero from the moment she appears on-screen. She kills a few soldiers who are in her way so she can get to her five sisters, whom she plans to kill so she will be the only Intoner left in the world. She goes from being uninterested and angry when she’s not fighting to being violent and angry when she is.
She is even mean to Mikhail, her dragon partner, who is kind and acts like a child. Zero doesn’t say that the real reason she wants to kill her sisters is to stop The Flower, a bad person or thing, from killing the world. She decides to kill her sisters because she feels responsible for their existence and the danger they bring to the world.
